International Bluegrass Music Association Entertainers of the Year Perform to Raise Funds for St. Louis de Montfort Church

On July 11th, Saint Louis de Montfort Church and the Knights of Columbus hosted The Grascals at the parish hall. The event was put on to raise money for the expansion of the junior high school facility and a parish multi-purpose building.

The Grascals are the reigning International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Entertainers of the Year, having won the honor for the 2nd year in a row in October 2007. They also won the 2005 IBMA awards for Emerging Artist of the Year and Song of the Year, for the Harley Allen-penned “Me and John and Paul.”

The Knights were paid a special compliment when the band commented how t h e y m a k e many trips to fast-food restaurants but felt right at home with the “Santa Maria S t y l e B B Q ” dinner before their performance. The meal included the paper plates, plastic forks and spoons, along with the great food the guest were served at the early show. Trent Benedetti, Grand Knight, said, “We were very fortunate and lucky to have a group the quality of The Grascals for our fund-raiser.”

He went on to say, “thanks to Brother Knight Joe Quealy, who knows the band personally, and the 30 Knights and family who volunteered, we were able to raise over $5,500 for the building fund.”

The fundraising is expected to go on for about three years. But in the end, the children who attend St. Louis de Montfort School and the parishioners, using the expanded facilities, will serve the needs of the growing parish for years to come.
